ALESSI Cheese Grater FORMA by Zaha Hadid
Zaha Hadid designed cheese grater Alessi Forma
The Alessi "Forma" cheese grater is the perfect expression of the visionary design skills of the architect and Pritzker Prize winner Zaha Hadid, who passed away in 2016. She was always able to translate facets of the visual arts into architecture and design objects with flowing, dynamic forms, like this sculptural dining table accessory.
The organic shape of the grater is inspired by pebbles smoothed by water and wind. The grater is seamlessly pressed from stainless steel in a complex manufacturing and polishing process. The grated cheese is collected inside. The shiny silver pebble sits on a contrasting black melamine base that doubles as a plate for a piece of Parmesan.
The name "Forma" underlines the expressive character of this kitchen accessory (forma means shape in Italian). It is a grater that adapts to the palm of the hand as if it were one with it. The "pebble" lies so lightly and comfortably in your hand that grating becomes completely natural. The ergonomic shape of this excellently crafted cheese grater makes you want to grate cheese every day.
